Going to Hongkong this coming june 8?

November 4, 2009 - 1:51 pm 3 Comments

Im going with my mom and our iterinary includes an overnight stay in macau. we are staying in regal hotel at causeway area and at macau in metropark hotel.
we will have a 7days trip.can you suggests whats the best thing to do when in honkong and macau?by the way,any malls you can suggest for a cheaper price and good qaulity electronic shops?and also where can we go if we wana buy bags/clothings and children’s outfits that are also affordable too.
What is the weather in hongkong now?
How much is the ferry going to macau and what time is the trip, from going and coming back?
Lastly, what is the best ride/route going to hk disneyland and ocean park.
Sorry about my queries is quite long…Thanks!

Both are great cities. In Hong Kong, tons of shopping!! If you want cheap, I suggest the Night Market, Ladies Market and Jade Market on the Kowloon side. You can find very high end stores in HK, but also some very cheap but cool shops too. For general electronics, you will find tons of shops for MP3/MP4 and phones. You can also find lots of computer stores as well. The one I like is call Star Computer City, across from the Star Ferry Port in Kowloon, but you can also find many shops on HK Island around Wan Chai.

In Macau, it’s a gamblers paradise with lots of casinos now. I suggest you get into town and do a walking tour as there is some great archtecture here.

It is hot and getting hotter, think of being inside a greenhouse for tropical plants in the summer! Your gonna sweat a lot.

Ferries run regulary from HK to Macau. You can take subway directly to Disneyland.

Also: If you want really cheap shopping, I suggest getting a visa for mainland China and popping over to Zhuhai which is just across the border from Macau or taking the 30 min train to Shenzhen from HK.

buying a cell phone, looking for a shop?

November 4, 2009 - 1:50 pm 1 Comment

`m going to New York ( Long Island exactly ) and I`m planning to buy a cell phone. I don`t want any plans or something like that, i want only a phone because i will be staying in USA for 2 weeks so i won`t be using it in the USA. I can`t find any shop which has a website becouse i would like to see the offer and compare the prices. If you know any good store which sells electronic things please write the name of it and a website.

It sounds like you may be a perfect candidate for a no contract & non limited (USA) TrackFone.

First let me redefine no limit: "No limit to long distance in the USA".

You say that you will omly be in the USA for a couple more weeks. You don’t need a contract hanging over your head.

Answer, a pay as you go phone. That would be a Tracfone.
http://www.tracfone.com . They offer many phones with units (minutes) packages for all budgets. You can get a better deal online, but local stores offer these too.

I do not think that they will work outside the USA though in the event you want to have it work in the new location. My best suggestion is that you buy a cell phone here with no contract and purchase your new phone at the new location.

You can purchase a tracfone for as little as $19.99 or $24.99.
The online ones will ship in two days normally. But if you need or want one right away, you should shop at your local store(s) for one. This way you can get it charged up and ready to go. (I do not know if your order online will have the phone charged up already, but I doubt it will be usefull out of the box for long without a charge).

Hope this helps.

PS: The only other option, if you want only one phone, is an expensive universal phone or also called a World Wide phone. This may include having to do the contract thing again!

What is the meaning of "CE" printed on electronic goods?

November 2, 2009 - 5:06 pm 2 Comments

The CE mark (officially CE marking) is a mandatory marking on certain products, which is required if they are placed on the market in the European Economic Area (EEA). By affixing the CE marking, the manufacturer, or its representative, or the importer assures that the item meets all the essential requirements of all applicable EU directives. Examples of European Directives requiring CE marking include toy safety, machinery, low-voltage equipment, R&TTE, and EM compatibility. There are about 25 Directives requiring CE marking. A list can be found at http://www.ceqna.com/tvs/1669-tvs-2.html

E-Cigarette, safe to smoke?

November 2, 2009 - 5:06 pm 4 Comments

i got this electronic cigarette from china (from ebay). I don’t know if i should trust a product made in china lol would you say it’s safe to use it? other than nicotine is not good for you etc etc…….

E-cigarettes are marketed as a healthier alternative to tobacco smoking, since most of the harmful material produced by the combustion of tobacco in traditional cigarettes is not present in the atomised liquid of e-cigarettes. They have also been marketed as a way to keep or curtail an addiction to nicotine.

Various toxicological studies of the electronic cigarettes have been conducted, with some concluding that electronic cigarettes are less harmful than traditional tobacco cigarettes, because they can deliver nicotine into the lungs without the carcinogens and toxicants. Nevertheless, the devices still deliver nicotine, which is linked to several harmful circulatory diseases.

Cheapest electronic Japanese dictionary?

November 2, 2009 - 5:06 pm 3 Comments

I want a good english/japanese electronic dictionary but ive only found ones with multiple languages that cost a lot. i just want a english/japanese one. links are highly appreciated. thanks!!!

This site sells some Japanese/English electronic dictionaries and ships overseas: http://www.whiterabbitpress.com/catalog/Japanese-English-orderby0-p-1-c-262.html

But if you want a good one, you will have to spend a lot. Also, be sure to get one appropriate for your skill level. That site has forums where people can help you pick a good one. For example, most are designed for Japanese people, but there are some with more English-speaker friendly menus, setup, etc. There are some where you can write kanji on the screen to look them up, which is great for beginner-intermediate students. If you are more advanced, you might want one with a bigger dictionary (more words).

This is a decent paper dictionary – http://www.amazon.com/Kodanshas-Furigana-Japanese-Dictionary-Japanese-English/dp/4770024800

And http://www.alc.co.jp/ is a fantastic online dictionary.
