How to shop online in Korea

September 10, 2009 - 6:18 pm 2 Comments

I have noticed that in Korea, it seems to be easier for Americans at least to find plenty of imported goods from back home to satisfy their homesick palettes. However as a Brit it seems that we are not so lucky. I can only dream of finding a decent brand of British tea or UK made Cadburys Dairy Milk on the shop shelves. Whilst I am not one for condoning free advertising for companies in this blog entry, I do want to tell you about an amazing website I have been introduced to by one of my Korean co-workers. If you come to Korea to teach English you will usually be set up with in your apartment with various essentials such as a rice cooker in your kitchen, plus of course various furniture such as a bed and a sofa. However you might find that you need to purchase some odd extras like err.AN OVEN! Yeah you heard right! Koreans dont generally have ovens in their own homes.

So yeah, this is where this website comes in handy. Known as Gmarket it kinda does exactly what it says on the tin. An online market; consisting of different companies selling various items from house ware, to electrical items, to food and drink, only at a fraction of the price to what you might find in the shops here in Bucheon and the rest of Korea. And there is an English option!!! Woohoooo!!!! The best part is, you also can find great British substitutes to keep yourself happy! I ordered a very cheap mini oven the other day and it arrived this morning! So now I can bake to my hearts content and also make a Traditional English Sunday Roast Dinner!……YUMMMMM!!! Click on the video to see a guide as well as my own experience of using this very appreciated site!

PropertyRoom.com/ the Biggest Online Police Auction

September 7, 2009 - 7:33 pm No Comments

http://personalmoneystore.com/moneyblog/2009/06/30/propertyroomcom-biggest-online-police-auction/?id=267

There are so many categories and things at propertyroom.com/, it surprising. You could almost view Property Room as a department store. There is a whole section just dedicated to watches. There are also sections for health and beauty, office equipment, photography equipment and vehicles.

Theres even a coins and currency section where you can buy money. Of course, its collectible coins and sets, not just cold, hard cash. Pay attention to what youre bidding at propertyroom.com/, though. There are some DVD sets on Property Room that have already gotten bids higher than $50, which is probably the same amount youd spend on brand new ones.

If youre the impatient type who doesnt necessarily appreciate the suspense of an auction, click on Quick Wins at propertyroom.com/. That section shows only items whose auctions are about to close. It shows exactly how much longer you can bid on each item, and for most of the items in Quick Wins thats less than a minute. So you will be able to essentially buy the items you want immediately.

Theres also a section called Buy Now Deals. That seems to be where all the good stuff is located. Laptops, iPhones, all kinds of other electronic equipment and other high-end items are in that section. Right now there are watches in there going for more than $1,000.

Frys Electronic Store – is it really worth to shop there because it’s cheaper?

September 6, 2009 - 1:23 am 3 Comments

Is Frys reliable? As in, are the workers helpful and products in good quality in comparison to Best Buy?

We’re buying a new computer ( the whole set ) and I think we should buy it from Best Buy… but my uncle argues that we should go to Frys because Frys is cheaper.

Any input? Or any experience at shopping at Frys? (Because I personally know Best Buy has pretty good service)

Thanks!

Best Buy will definitely give you better service, but if your looking for good quality products and a cheaper price – Fry’s is the way to go. It’s kind of like Sams Club to Walmart (it’s more like a warehouse).

Also, check out TigerDirect.com as they have great deals on computers.

Cheers!

Looking for good ways to organize and store power cords and adapters from electronic gadgets?

September 4, 2009 - 3:28 am 1 Comment

Love your username!

I’m still struggling with this issue, too. I have a plastic set of small translucent drawers for USB cords, battery chargers, and small gadgets for home storage. Cost me abotu $20.

I’m about to take too many gadgets on vacation, as usual, and I’m considering Ziploc bags as I have used them on previous vacations. I’ll probably use snack bags for USB cords, then put them with the gadget in a quart sized or gallon sized Ziplocs.

What is a good photo editing software that is under $60 and i can buy it at best buy or an electronic store?

Give Google Picassa a try. It’s free and may do the job that you want.

Good luck.
