How can I check if a Chinese company is not a scam before buying electronic equipment from them?

Our business is interested in buying electronic equipment from a chinese company. Is there a way to verify if the company really exists without having to go to china? Can I verify through the internet if it is a recomendable company with good reputation? Are there entities that can check this out for me, or any webpage that offers this service?

You HAVE to go to China if you want to avoid being ripped off.
