i dont recommend shock collars

i have an alternative, its the citronella spray collar. it expells a stinky smell whenever a dog barks.
please watch this before you decide ANYTHING.

I have a sport dog collar for stubborn dogs that I got at Bass Pro Shop for my GSD. It has an audible as well as two different types of "shock". A long and a short one. It's waterproof and will go for 300 yards. I believe I paid 160 for it. it's a very good collar and I'm happy with it. works well on my dog too when I want to get his attention. they have different ranges of collars there and most are reasonably priced.

Tri Tronics is the best-I used to have an old Pro 500 (Actually, my dog is wearing it in my picture. ) but it finally died after oh, twelve years of use? His grandmother used to wear that same collar.

The cheapest they have, I think is the Sport Basic, for around 200 dollars, but it will be the best ‘cheap’ collar you’ll get.
I think it has a half mile range, and ten levels… I dunno, but I was looking at their collars in a magazine a few days ago.

The best is the Pro 500, but they’re pretty pricey, I think the magazine I was looking at had them at 500 dollars.

Purchasing a good book on dog obedience or investing in an obedience class to learn more about your dog would be a better use of your money. This would also be much more effective in developing a relationship with your shepherd that will make you and the dog a lot happier than a tool for negative reinforcement.

I don’t have one yet (because I haven’t been taught how to use one appropriately yet), but in my experience talking with hunters and trainers, you’re not going to get a decent e-collar for that price. My trainer (GSD SH. and k-9 specialist) only recommends tritronics and dogtra, and she doesn’t get paid to make those recommendations.

If you’re serious about learning how to correctly and humanely use an e-collar with the help of a professional, I’d recommend this model to start:

127 levels of stim ensures you can find the correct lowest level required for your dog. Many models have 8 or 10- what if 4 is too low and 5 is too high?
