Why is there looting of electronic goods in Haiti, there is no food, water, medical supplies, or ELECTRICITY?

When the food, water, medical supplies and electricity become available, people are going to want big screen TVs.
It is not as if those things are worthless, they still have value.

(1) Such goods are like cash, and unlike food, they don’t rot. As the other answer said — there is a black market — hooray for that! Any market is better than none. That’s the motive of survivors as well as smarter thieves.
(2) Lust for things. That’s the motive of thieves!
